Construction of road leads to better opportunities for community members

The newly constructed Kiang-Kop Road, which was officially handed over earlier this month, is a link to opportunities, dignity, and a better quality of life.

This project of Kudumane Manganese Resources (KMR), in partnership with the Joe Morolong Local Municipality, traditional leadership, and the community, marks a significant milestone in improving mobility, accessibility, and connectivity for residents of Kiang-Kop and surrounding areas.

The initiative traces back to 2018 when engagements between the KMR and the community initially focused on the development of a cultural village.

However, through continuous consultation and collaboration with community members and leadership, the need for improved road infrastructure emerged as a priority.

In response to these needs, the KMR supported the construction of a 1 260 metre long and 6 metre wide road aimed at improving access to essential services such as clinics, schools, government facilities, and neighbouring communities, including access to the road leading to Bothithong.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, KMR senior general manager Jaison Rajan said they believe development should create lasting impact and improve the daily lives of the communities KMR serve.

“This road is more than infrastructure; it is a link to opportunities, dignity, and a better quality of life,” he said.

Rajan highlighted that the project reflects the value of listening to communities and working together towards practical solutions that address real needs.

The KMR extended its appreciation to Kgosi Isaac Dioka, the Joe Morolong Local Municipality, traditional leadership, contractors, engineers, and the Kiang-Kop community for their support and collaboration throughout the project.

The ceremony was attended by the speaker of the Joe Morolong Local Municipality, Violet Jordan Cidrass, Cllr Patricia Filipo, KMR representatives, municipal officials, contractors, engineers, traditional council members, in addition to members of the community.
