Ofrans Pelesa is this year’s male winner of the Diamond Marathon, presented by the Kimberley Harriers Running Club.
The 56th Diamond Marathon โ which is the second oldest marathon in South Africa โ took place on Saturday 7 March from St Patrick’s CBC in Du Toitspan Road in Kimberley.
This popular flat and fast race is one of the largest marathons in the Northern Cape and first took place in 1970.
Pelesa crossed the finishing line in 2:34:44, followed by Innocent Thameng (2:40:45) and Mojalefa Ditshwele (2:42:04).
Melissa du Plessis was the first female to finish the marathon (3:20:56). The second woman over the finish line was Talia du Raan (3:42:30), with Charmain Ras (4:02:49) in the third place.

In the halfmarathon, Siphiwe Mqayisa (1:10:09) was the male winner, with runners-up Kgatliso Morwe (1:15:04) and Alfonzo Jantjies (1:20:35).
Mari Els is the halfmarathon female winner (1:45:31), followed by Suzanne Esterhuizen (1:46:59) and Frances Witteveen (1:46:59).

In the 10km event, Katlego Shomoleile is the winner in the male category (34:30), followed by Lebogang Isaac (40:06) and Andrew Mokwena (40:12). Tankiso Julia Lepolisa is the female winner (47:45), with Ju-Mari Serfontein second (49:43) and Ashley Kok third (49:49).
Apart from the marathon being a qualifier race for the Two Oceans and Comrades marathons, it also served as the Athletics Griqualand West (AGW) Marathon Championships. Harry Seekoei and Innocent Thameng have qualified to represent the AGW at the upcoming Athletics South Africa (ASA) marathon championships in May.
