At the end of October a major milestone was reached towards the development of the Kathu Industrial Park for which Kumba Iron Ore has made strategically located land available.

A delegation by the Northern Cape Provincial Government (NCPG), led by the premier, Dr. Zamani Saul, met with the CEO of Kumba Iron Ore, Mpumi Zikalala, and the team of Kumba Iron Ore for the ceremonial handover of the land parcel of 91ha, estimated at R62 million.

This was preceded with the signing of the land donation agreement, which marked the formal initiation of the transfer process.

This milestone signifies the culmination of extensive engagements between Kumba Iron Ore, the Northern Cape Economic Development, Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (NCEDA), and the NCPG, aimed at establishing an industrial hub to service the region’s mining and beneficiation ecosystem.

This aligns with the Northern Cape Industrial Corridor Development Framework, which positions the Kathu node as a strategic centre in support of mining operations across the broader corridor.
