Under the roaring cheers of a sold-out crowd in Hartswater on Saturday, 26 July, the final of the Frances Baard Cup was played.

Two fierce rivals, Kimberley Rugby Club (KRC) and Hartswater Rugby Club, met for this final showdown at 19:00.

Hartswater, as hosts and fierce competitors, fought tooth and nail, giving everything. KRC, however, was relentless, displaying resilience, strategic brilliance, and unwavering focus. The game surged back and forth, keeping spectators on the edge of their seats.

With seconds remaining on the clock and the score deadlocked at 26-30, KRC launched a decisive move. They snapped the ball just inches from Hartswaterโ€™s grasp and crossed the line to score the winning try – sealing a dramatic victory with a final score of 33-30.

The crowd erupted in thunderous applause, not just for the victory but for the display of true sportsmanship, resilience, and heart. It was a game that embodied the very essence of rugby.

Romeo Syfers, chairperson of the Frances Baard Rugby Region, praised both teams and the vibrant community that supported them, “Tonight, we witnessed greatness,โ€ he declared. โ€œKimberley Rugby Club, you fought with fire and spirit to the very end. Hartswater, your supporters – over 823 strong – stood behind you with unwavering loyalty. You hosted an outstanding final, and your communityโ€™s passion made this night unforgettable. The support from everyone here, including the lively potjiekos competition, truly shows the heart of our region.โ€
