The Sol Plaatje Municipality recently announced the appointment of four debt collection companies.
In a statement, the communication officer of the executive mayor says the recouping of monies owed for services rendered is critical for revenue enhancement.
The four companies appointed by the municipality are Upsurge Construction and Projects; Ntliyiso Consulting; New Integrated Credit Solutions; and Alpha Collections.
Services for the collection of revenue on overdue accounts handed over will include, but are not limited to:
- the tracing of all handed-over debtors;
- conduct recovery services by collecting all outstanding monies by means of telephonic as well as written communication (letters of demand and SMS’s);
- issuing of summons;
- obtaining of judgements;
- listing and delisting of debtors (blacklisting); and
- obtaining of warrants of execution.
All customer groups that are indebted to the municipality are encouraged to pay, especially accounts that are in arrears for more than 90 days.
The current status of the municipal debtors’ book are as follows:
- household (residential customers): R2,5 billion;
- businesses: R701 million; and
- government: R783 million.
The municipality emphasises that all payment platforms for municipal accounts remain the same.
Customers are urged not to make payments to anyone who alleges to be from the municipality, and who threatens to disconnect their electricity services as it may be a scam.
Payment must done on the current available platforms or at the various municipal paypoints.
