DELPORTSHOOP – The SAPS in Delportshoop in the Northern Cape is appealing for public assistance as part of an investigation launched into the circumstances surrounding the death of Lizeny Molehe (22 ). This followed the discovery of her body floating in a river, prompting an investigation to put the pieces of the puzzle together.

Colonel Cherelle Ehlers, spokesperson for Northern Cape police, said the deceased was positively identified by her next of kin, adding that the investigation includes determining the cause of death. She said on Friday — at approximately 17:45, a community member noticed a body floating in the river near Sydney-on-Vaal. “The SAPS Delportshoop, together with the Provincial Diving Unit, were dispatched to the scene and the body was retrieved at approximately 20:30,” she said.

Ehlers said that, according to information provided, Molehe was last seen at her residence in Longlands on 24 June when she left with friends at approximately 23:00. “She allegedly told her friends that she was going to collect a cellphone from another friend, but had not been seen since. On 7 July, she was reported missing, and an extensive investigation was launched. The Mounted Unit from Kimberley and the K9 Unit from Upington also joined the search,” said Ehlers. The intensive search ended with the discovery of her body in a river.
