DURBAN – Three suspects wanted in connection with kidnapping and fraud were killed in a shootout with police in Mariannhill, Durban, in the early hours of today – Wednesday, 20 May, following a high-speed chase.
Colonel Robert Netshiunda, provincial spokesperson for KwaZulu-Natal police, said the suspects were wanted for an alleged kidnapping and fraud case in Greenwood Park, as well as illegal possession of firearms.
“Police collected intelligence about the whereabouts of the suspects. The suspects were spotted in their vehicle driving along Milky Way Road and officers attempted to stop them. The suspects defied police instructions and sped off. Police gave chase and during the operation a shootout ensued. The suspects’ vehicle lost control and hit a tree,” said Netshiunda. He said no police officer was injured during the shoot out with the three suspects who were killed.
Netshiunda said police found two pistols and several rounds of ammunition in the suspects’ vehicle.
