GRAAFF-REINET – On 4 November, multi-disciplinary operations conducted as build-ups towards the MEC for Community Safety and Transport in the Eastern Cape Province, Xolile Nqatha’s launch of Safety Month in Graaff-Reinet, part of South Africa’s broader campaign, yielded positive results, including numerous arrests and the confiscation of a stolen vehicle.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Majola Nkohli confirmed that multisectoral teams comprising the South African Police Service (SAPS), Provincial and Municipal Traffic officers, and private security companies were involved in several joint operations, which led to either arrests or the issuing of fines.

“Traffic fines worth R24,000 were issued during a roadblock that was operated on the N9 on 4 November,” said Nkohli.

Furthermore, he said that an intelligence-driven operation led to the arrest of 20 suspects, and among those was a man nabbed for possession of a stolen vehicle in Makhanda.

Nkohli revealed that a preliminary investigation into the vehicle theft has uncovered important details about the case.

“A preliminary investigation revealed that the vehicle was stolen in Addo two months ago,” said Nkohli.
