THABANCHU – The South African Arts and Culture Youth Forum (SAACYF) Free State proudly hosted the second annual Free State Arts Alive Festival in partnership with Mmabana Arts and Culture Centre in Thabanchu on 31 October and 1 November.
The festival showcased the talents of artists from across the Free State Province, promoting unity and cultural heritage whilst celebrating local creativity.
Local Talent Takes Centre Stage
Ninety per cent of featured artists were from the Free State Province, highlighting the wealth of artistic talent within the region. The festival had a significant impact on the local business community in Thabanchu, providing economic opportunities and cultural exposure for the area.

Provincial Expansion Plans
SAACYF aims to engage with the Department of Sports, Arts, Culture, and Recreation to secure support and funding for future festivals as part of an ambitious expansion strategy.
Lekgutsa Mbele, SAACYF National Organiser and Free State Provincial Chairperson, expressed pride in the festival’s impact and outlined ambitious plans for growth.
“We’re proud to play a role in inspiring many people through this festival. Next year, we plan to host it in all districts and local municipalities across the Free State, promoting our rich cultural heritage and creativity,” Mbele said.
Business Support and Government Funding Sought
The organisation is actively seeking partnerships with the private sector whilst pursuing government backing for the initiative’s expansion.
“We invite businesses to support this initiative and look forward to meeting with the Department to secure funding and inclusion in the MEC’s budget vote,” Mbele concluded.
The success of the second annual festival demonstrates the growing momentum behind arts and culture initiatives in the Free State, with organisers positioning the event as a catalyst for both cultural preservation and economic development across the province.
