BLOEMFONTEIN: Art patrons within the Mangaung Metro can view three exhibitions currently on show at the Oliewenhuis Art Museum in Bloemfontein. Offering a real treat, the exhibitions are ongoing until the end of August.
The exhibitions are One Thing Leads to Another will end on 17 August, Soliloquy: the Untold Story of Sleeping Beauty’s Dreams going till 24 August and What remains through time, slowness and stillness will close on 24 August.

One Thing Leads to Another is a solo exhibition of paintings by South African artist Bronwen Findlay, reviewing 48 years of expressive paintings showcasing different eras of her life. Some pieces have been borrowed from public collections, while others have not been shown previously or were created this year. The exhibition is an opportunity for the public to view her artworks, see both similarities and differences in the depicted imagery, and how paint has been used and manipulated.

What Remains Through Time, Slowness and Stillness is a solo exhibition by Sonya Rademeyer. She seeks to find ways to bridge cultural fragmentation through empathy as an entangled artistic practice. The exhibition is conceptualised around the theme of time and erosion and explored through a decolonizing worldview. In the place of stillness where erosion generally happens, natural processes of decay and erosion of plant life generally runs unnoticed.

Soliloquy: the Untold Story of Sleeping Beauty’s Dreams is a solo exhibition by Lisa Ledwick. Soliloquy is a personal, visual journey of growth that touches on key elements of agency, re-visioning, traditional femininity, and fairy tales conveyed through exquisite graphite and pencil drawings.
In this evocative solo exhibition, the artist invites viewers into a dreamworld forged in nostalgia, myth, and psychological reflection. What unfolds is a contemporary re-visioning of the traditional fairy tale, not as a passive slumber but as a rite of passage – a dreamtime journey of awakening. The viewer is encouraged to step inside a suspended reality where archetype and memory collide, drawing them into a richly symbolic world that interrogates meaning and agency. The narrative occurs within the protagonist’s dream during the curse, repositioning her not as a dormant figure, but as a heroine on a quest for spiritual and emotional truth.
