Walmer SAPS have arrested four suspects in connection with a murder following a swift investigation that led to the identification of the primary crime scene and the apprehension of the alleged perpetrators.

GQEBERHA – Walmer SAPS have arrested four suspects in connection with a murder following a swift investigation that led to the identification of the primary crime scene and the apprehension of the alleged perpetrators.

According to police spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, it is alleged that on 12 April at approximately 02:45, SAPS members responded to a complaint regarding a 19-year-old man who had been brought to Livingstone Hospital, Korsten, in a private vehicle.

She said that according to hospital staff, the victim was declared dead on arrival.

Janse Van Rensburg said that preliminary investigations by Walmer SAPS detectives led to the identification of the primary crime scene in Airport Valley, Walmer, at approximately 07:00 the same morning.

“With the assistance of Walmer SAPS, the Gqeberha K9, Flying Squad and LCRC, members processed the scene and collected crucial evidence,” said Janse Van Rensburg.

She said that further investigation led to members receiving information regarding the whereabouts of the suspects.

The information was operationalised, leading to the arrest of four suspects aged between 29 and 35.

The alleged murder weapon was also confiscated.

“The deceased sustained multiple open wounds to the face and head. The motive for the murder is currently unknown and forms part of the ongoing investigation,” said Janse Van Rensburg.

She said that the suspects are expected to appear in the Gqeberha Magistrate’s Court on 14 April on a charge of murder.

The Station Commander of Motherwell, Brigadier Loyiso Ngalo commended the officers and members involved for their quick response and coordinated efforts, which led to the swift arrest of the suspects.
