MELODING – Four men, aged between 27 and 36, have been arrested in connection with the attempted murder of a man who was allegedly assaulted with dangerous weapons at his parents’ home in Meloding.

The incident allegedly took place at about 03:00 on Friday, 10 July.

According to police, six men allegedly forced their way into the victim’s home before assaulting him. During the attack, the suspects allegedly accused the victim of stealing their drugs.

The victim sustained serious head and body injuries and was taken to hospital for medical treatment. Police subsequently opened a case of attempted murder for further investigation.

On Monday, 13 July, members of the Welkom Anti-Gang Unit, acting on information received from Thabong Crime Intelligence, traced and arrested four of the alleged suspects at various addresses in Meloding.

Police also confiscated several dangerous weapons believed to have been used during the assault. The items seized include pangas, knives, a tonfa, a spear and a sjambok, all of which have been booked in as evidence.

According to police, the arrested suspects are allegedly affiliated with the Rasta Gang.

The four suspects are expected to appear in the Virginia Magistrate’s Court soon on charges of attempted murder.

Police investigations are continuing to trace the remaining suspects.
