Four men charged with murder after tavern attack in Thabong


THABONG – Four men aged between 20 and 23 are facing charges of murder and attempted murder following an attack at a tavern in Thabong.

Police were called to the scene at a local butchery and liquor establishment in Thabong at about 6:20 on Sunday, 28 June.

An eyewitness told police that two male employees were attacked with pangas and knives. A group allegedly argued with the victims over locked restrooms at the establishment.

During the altercation, the two employees were attacked before the group fled the scene.

A male (25) was fatally wounded after sustaining multiple stab wounds to his body. He was declared dead at the scene.

A second victim (29) was rushed to hospital after suffering a stab wound to the neck.

The four men were subsequently traced and arrested for murder and attempted murder. Police seized several weapons believed to have been used during the attack.

The suspects are expected to appear before the Welkom Magistrate’s Court soon.
