MELODING – A 38-year-old foreign national has been arrested in connection with the murder of a 29-year-old woman who was fatally stabbed at a shebeen in Stilte Park, Meloding.

According to Free State police, officers were called to the scene at approximately 02:00 on Friday, 24 July, following reports of a stabbing.

It is alleged that the suspect stabbed the woman with a sharp object, causing serious injuries to her neck and chest. She was rushed to hospital in a private vehicle but was pronounced dead on arrival.

The victim was later identified by her family as Karabo Zava (29).

Police immediately launched a search for the suspect and traced him later that same day in an open field in Meloding, where he was arrested without incident.

The motive for the killing has not yet been established and remains the subject of an ongoing police investigation.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Virginia Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 27 July, on charges of murder, contravention of the Immigration Act and possession of a dangerous weapon.

Police investigations are continuing.
