FRIDAY 24 JULY

Stellenbosch: The next event in the 2026 Spier Winemaker Dinners Series is themed “No Rules” at VELD, welcoming guests to escape the cold and gather in an intimate setting to meet the people behind the wines. The theme is the winemaking equivalent of throwing out the recipe book, with unconventional pairings and a menu designed to make you reconsider what you thought you knew about food and wine. The cost of R950 includes welcome bubbles, a four-course meal with wines and coffee. It starts at 18:30. Book your place via Dineplan.

Stellenbosch: The 32nd Japanese Film Festival returns on Friday 24 and Saturday 25 July, with a selection of captivating Japanese films set to be screened at the ROAD HOUSE CINEMA at the Neelsie Student Centre. Hosted by the Office of the Consul of Japan and Stellenbosch University Japan Centre, the festival will offer audiences an opportunity to experience the richness and diversity of Japanese storytelling. Admission to the festival is free, so audiences can enjoy the films across a variety of genres. Films that will be screened on Friday are The Dancing Okami (14:30) and The Zen Diary (16:40). On Saturday audiences can watch Father of the Milky Way Railroad (12:30) and Princess Arete (14:50). All films are in Japanese with English subtitles and seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Stellenbosch: Experience the warmth and charm of winter at Retro Rouge – Flavours of Winter, a seasonal celebration of wine, music and hearty food at MURATIE WINE ESTATE from 10:00 to 17:00. Stellenbosch: The weekly Music and Cheese Fondue Winter Experience at DELHEIM WINE ESTATE will feature the Bongani Sotshononda Jazz Experience. The event combines music with traditional Swiss-style dining; guests will be served a three-course meal centred on a cheese fondue, accompanied by bread and seasonal vegetables. The cost includes glühwein on arrival, a table appetiser, cured meats and coffee with brownies for dessert. Estate wines will be available for purchase. It runs from noon to 15:00. Stellenbosch: Trail runners are invited to enter the Winter Trail Run, presented by Sportsmans Warehouse, at L’AVENIR ESTATE. Participants can choose between a 6 km and 11 km route. Registration opens at 08:30, with the 11 km starting at 09:00 and the 6 km at 09:15. Entry costs R170 for the 6 km and R210 for the 11 km; runners under 18 pay R75 when entering online before Friday 24 July. All finishers will receive a medal and cold drink, with refreshment stations on the routes, prizes for category winners and a lucky draw after the race. Faure: HUIS HORISON holds its annual fundraiser, Celebrate Life, at Clara’s Barn at Vergenoegd Löw, offering a fine-dining experience in support of the residential care centre for adults with intellectual disabilities. The event brings together some of the region’s most celebrated chefs, exceptional wines and live music. It caters for only 80 guests, who will enjoy a five-course menu paired with carefully selected estate wines. Fabio Daniel (Rust en Vrede), Matt van den Berg (Mertia), Jess van Dyk (Post & Pepper), Marthinus Ferreira (Jordan) and Michelle Theron (Vergenoegd Löw) are generously donating their time and expertise.
