Ten-out-of-ten and a shave away from gleaning maximum points from their outings.
This was the outcome of the first-round of games for Blue Stars United, after they delivered yet another clinical performance in their match against Excelsior at Cloetsville Sports Ground on Saturday 13 June.
The visitors recorded a 7-43 victory over their neighbours from Stellenbosch in the Northern League of the Western Province Rugby Football Union.

Paying dividends
The triumph means the Klapmuts club finished the round of matches undefeated and at the top of the log with 49 points having gained a bonus-point victory from all their matches expect one. The local team’s first and second teams are unbeaten – a remarkable feat for the team looking to join Super League C next season.
Proud chairperson JC Anthony attributed the success to the game plan, discipline, dedication, teamwork and hard work delivered on and off the field.
“I urge the players to build on this discipline, excellent play and the winning culture,” he said. “Stay humble, work hard and support each other as one club and one family. The season is still long, but the foundation that has been laid shows that we are on the right path.”
In other Northern League matches, Faure stopped an onslaught from Cloetesville, who still remain winless this season, claiming a 26-40 victory at the Nietvoorbij Sports Ground, while both Blakes and Stellenbosch-Coronations claimed narrow but important wins in their matches against Fisantekraal (35-34) and Morning Star United (20-19) respectively.
Poor form
The three Super League A teams from Stellenbosch and surrounds would rather want to forget about the last round of league fixtures, with two of them on the losing side and the third again forfeiting their meeting.
SU Maties could not withstand the pressure of SK Walmers at the Danie Craven Stadium, going down 19-30, Tygerberg were too strong for Franschhoek at Florida Park (29-19) and Van der Stel-Evergreens waved the white flag before their scheduled match with Villager, conceding the match 0-28 to hand the would-be visitors five points.
There was mixed results for the local teams in Super League C, with Raithby Univerals extending their winning streak with a convincing 14-45 victory over Caledonian Roses, while Gardens defended their home fortress in their match against Pniël Villagers, who were defeated 51-40 in a high-scoring encounter.
Upcoming fixtures
This coming weekend (Saturday 20 June), only Franschhoek will be in action in Super League A, with Maties and VDE on a scheduled bye. Thirteenth-placed Franschhoek will host 12th-placed UWC Caracals at Groendal Sports Ground, with a victory for the local team meaning a move up the ladder.
In Super League C, only Pniël Villagers are in action this weekend as Kylemore and RU both enjoy bye weekends. Pniël will be looking to put the past weekend behind them when they travel to the Helderberg to lock horns with Sir Lowrians in Sir Lowry’s Pass.
Northern League log leaders Blue Stars will be on a much deserved break this weekend, while all the other teams from the greater Stellenbosch region will be in action and on the road.
Blakes travel for their encounter against Faure, Excelsior take on Morning Star, Corries are in action against Fisantekraal and Cloeteville will again be looking for that elusive victory in their match against Gordon’s Bay Pioneers.
