The City’s traffic fine roadshow returns to help motorists reduce outstanding fines and warrants during the festive season. Starting 5 December 2025 at the Civic Centre, this popular initiative offers drivers a valuable opportunity to present their cases and achieve significant reductions on traffic penalties through a convenient “one-stop shop” approach.
The roadshow will operate according to the following timeline:
- 5 December 2025 (Friday) – Limited trial run exclusively for City staff and individuals with bulk case representations
- 6 December 2025 (Saturday) – Opens to the public (operations until 12:30 only)
- 8-12 December 2025 (Monday to Friday) – Full public access continues
Daily operational hours will be managed on-site by staff, with cut-off times determined based on capacity. Motorists still in queue at closing will receive return tickets for the following day. “The roadshows are incredibly popular, and a win-win for all concerned. Motorists get to clear the slate and the City gets to reduce the mammoth number of outstanding fines and associated paperwork. In fact, one can argue that motorists drive off with the better deal, considering the discounted amounts they pay, not to mention the ease of doing business at the roadshow compared to visiting individual municipal courts to resolve fines and warrants,” stated Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, JP Smith.
Smith emphasised the urgency of addressing outstanding fines before the holiday period: “We’re approaching the time of year with increased roadblocks and vehicle checkpoints as part of our festive season safety deployment. We’re also increasingly making use of tools like automated number plate recognition technology that can identify scofflaws with ease. So, please take advantage of the roadshow or one of our other fine payment options, or run the risk of potential arrest this holiday season, if you have outstanding warrants.”
Current traffic statistics
Recent data from July to September 2025 demonstrates the significant scope of traffic enforcement:
- 815 613 traffic offences recorded – representing an 11% increase compared to the previous year
- 27 771 warrants of arrest executed for outstanding fines or missed court appearances – showing a slight increase from the prior year
These figures underscore the importance of proactive fine resolution, particularly as festive season enforcement operations intensify with enhanced technology and increased roadblock activity.
The City strongly encourages all motorists with outstanding traffic fines or warrants to participate in the roadshow or utilize alternative payment options to avoid potential complications during the holiday season’s heightened enforcement measures.
