Cape Town’s latest traffic fine roadshow has generated nearly R16 million in payments and representations, with more than 3 600 motorists queuing at the recent Athlone event to settle outstanding fines and warrants.
The six-day roadshow, one of the City’s most popular outreach initiatives, resulted in R4.1 million paid in fines and R11.5 million recorded through representations. These events, held three to four times annually, operate as a collaboration between municipal courts, revenue services and other City departments.

The ‘one-stop shop’ initiative allows motorists to resolve outstanding traffic matters, settle warrants and negotiate fine reductions under one roof.
Mayoral Committee member for safety and security, JP Smith, said the roadshow’s popularity highlighted the volume of daily driving transgressions and related fines.

“The traffic fine roadshow is clearly growing in popularity and our traffic service will continue to take these payment opportunities to communities,” Smith said. “The turnout is a reminder once more of the sheer number of driving transgressions and related fines generated on a daily basis.”
Smith encouraged those who had cleared their fines to approach Easter weekend roadblocks with confidence, while urging others to use existing payment channels for a hassle-free long weekend.
Payment channels available
The roadshows supplement numerous existing channels where motorists can check and pay fines through the City’s website. The City has also reminded drivers to have their vehicles checked and exercise extra caution during the Easter weekend period, with vehicle safety tips available online.
