All Saints RFC produced a remarkable second-half comeback to defeat Vineyards RFC 22-17 in a thrilling Super League B Bottom 8 final played in perfect sunny conditions at City Park on Saturday (19 September).

The final carried extra significance for the Olla Boys, who had suffered defeat against Vineyards at home during the league phase. With the Challenger Cup at stake, All Saints were determined to turn the tables.

Vineyards came out firing from the opening whistle, attacking with purpose and putting the All Saints defence under immediate pressure.

Their early dominance was rewarded when they crossed for a converted try to take a 7-0 lead.

All Saints were forced into a period of sustained defensive pressure, defending attack after attack as Vineyards looked to extend their advantage.

But the All Saints pack refused to back down.

Their persistence eventually paid off when powerhouse forward Shakeel Jacobs stormed through the Vineyards defence to score a crucial try, proving extremely difficult to stop.

Vineyards responded with an unconverted try before half-time, leaving the score at 5-12 in favour of the team from Paarl at the break.

The second half belonged to the Olla Boys. Coming out with renewed determination and vigour, they shifted the momentum and began putting Vineyards under pressure. Eagan Christians was at the centre of the comeback, crossing twice as the team fought their way back into the contest.

Christians’ second try brought the scores level at 17-17, setting up a dramatic finish. With the match heading towards the final whistle, neither side was willing to give an inch.

Then came the decisive moment.

With virtually the last play of the game, replacement Dillin Manuel found a gap and crossed for the winning try, sending the All Saints supporters into wild celebrations.

The final whistle confirmed an extraordinary 22-17 victory for All Saints, completing a memorable comeback and securing the SLB Challenger Cup.

Christians was named man of the match for his outstanding performance and match-winning contribution.

In the SLC Bottom 8 final, Raithby Universals triumphed 22-12 over Langa to claim the win and cap off an impressive season.
