After the success of the first Parel Vallei Cricket Smash last year, five teams battled it out for the spoils over the weekend.

Parel Vallei High School cricket coaches and players from Grade 8 to 12 were up for auction at the end of August, with the tournament taking place at Parel Vallei and the Somerset West Cricket Club (Radloff Park) from Thursday 17 to Saturday 19 September.

After two days of matches – teams battling each other and strong winds on Friday – the Kaliber Knights ended top of the log to secure a place in the final.

The King Pie Kings faced the Gray Nicolls KitFwd Legends in the playoffs, where the Kings were crowned and gained the other spot in the final.

In what was a very tight match, the Kwena Crushers, the defending champions, had to settle for last place when they faced the other newcomers, the KwikSpar Spartans. The Spartans won by 4 runs.

The Knights won the toss and opted to bat first, where they scored 138/6 runs in their 15 overs. This target proved too much for the Kings, who managed 105/8 in their innings and the Knights won the final by 33 runs.

“Well done to the Kaliber Knights – the Parel Vallei Cricket Smash champions for 2026,” a statement read.

The tournament’s best fielding came from the Kaliber Knights too, with AJ Cooks awarded the trophy for Fielder of the Smash.

Dirk van Zyl if Gray Nicolls KitFwd Legends won the trophy for Bowler of the Smash and Ruben du Plessis of the KwikSpar Spartans was awarded the trophy for Batsman of the Smash.

The Parel Vallei Cricket Smash was held in support of the Cape Leopard Trust, with players, parents and the partnering businesses pledging funds to help this worthy cause.
