How long is it going to take road users, general public, commuters, pedestrians and nearby residents of Somerset West to complain in [large] numbers to the traffic authorities about the wreckless and dangerous behaviour, about the utter gall of deviance of the traffic laws and rules of the taxi drivers at the Somerset West Public Transport Interchange (PTI) near the Vineyard Shopping Centre in Somerset West?

Recently I was a victim of their vicious and vindictive behaviour at the intersection of Andries Pretorius and Lourens streets, where a taxi driver skipped the red traffic lights and almost knocked me over, all the while smiling at me while doing so!

This is not the first time this has happened to me and other pedestrians or road users crossing the road at this intersection, which is at the exit and entry points of the PTI.

Or are we as a society waiting for a fatality to occur at this intersection before we do something about it?

The residents in the area near to the PTI also live in constant fear because of the volatile situation around taxis. The threat of violence hangs like a dark cloud over this area because of the PTI occupants’ dangerous behaviour.

How long is Somerset West going to wait for the first fatality before we act?
