Lindie Malan and Claudell van Eeden were snapped at the first-ever Street Store hosted by ActionCOACH Southern Africa, together with the Somerset West Night Shelter, at its premises in Church Street, Somerset West last Friday (10 June). For those who may wonder what a Street Store is, it is the world’s first rent-free, premises-free, “pop-up clothing store” for the poor and homeless, found entirely on the street. Local residents and business owners had the opportunity to donate clothes and shoes to the initiative, which were then hung up and displayed at the night shelter for the homeless to “shop” and help themselves. The timing was perfect, just before the rainy weather arrived numerous women, children and men in need had tops, scarves, shoes and socks for beating the winter chill in.
