Congratulations to St George’s for picking up their first win of the season against Scottsdene-Central at the weekend as well as Strand and Macassar who remain unbeaten.
This week Berge are back in action and rugby fans can look forward to yet another Helderberg derby drawing a larger crowd than most WP Currie Cup games. Let’s have a look at the upcoming fixtures:
) Helderberg vs Hands & Heart (Eikendal)
The hosts are on a high after a few good wins, but I think Helderberg are a hurdle too high for them. Berge are fresh and looking like the team to beat in Super League B. Top-of-the-table clashes are always tense and unpredictable, but my money is on our local club to take the points.
) Raithby Universals vs Strand (Raithby)
RU won’t have enough firepower to compete with a well drilled Strand outfit. Derbies are usually good levellers, but one has to be realistic as well – Strand are looking like a team on a mission, while RU are blowing hot and cold. The region will yet again prove that we are “derby kings” as a huge crowd is expected.
) Sir Lowrians vs Blakes (Stellenbosch)
Sir Lowrians, under Omar Wyngaard, got off to a perfect start last week and will travel to Stellenbosch feeling more than optimistic. Blakes also come off a good derby win against Corries, so expect fireworks in this fixture. A win for either will set them up nicely for a Top-9 league position.
) All Saints vs Franschhoek (Helderzicht)
Saints have picked up eight points from their last three away games; they may feel it should have been 13 points. My point is they are doing well, but keep falling just short in what could set them up for an interesting season. Franschhoek are not the team of old and will have to fight hard against this All Saints setup.
) Gordon’s Bay Pioneers vs Bishop Lavis (Bishop Lavis)
GB Pioneers come off a narrow loss and will be feeling it. Lavis are not the most organised team in this league, but the points are still up for the taking. GB Pioneers need to get back to winning ways.
