In Super League A, Helderberg Rugby Club showed immense character but ultimately left the pitch empty-handed after a 26-19 loss to a clinical Tygerberg side on Saturday 25 April.

Despite the defeat, Berge remain a threat in the middle of the pack, currently sitting in ninth position on the Super League A log. They won’t have long to dwell on the tough loss as they prepare for a massive clash against UWC this Saturday (2 May).

With UWC currently languishing in 13th spot Helderberg will view this as a non-negotiable five-pointer to return to the top half of the table.

The race for the Super League B title is showing early signs of turning into a two-horse sprint that shows no signs of slowing down. All Saints remain the team to beat after a commanding 27-15 victory over Kraaifontein. Their ability to shut down high-scoring opponents has kept them at the summit of the log with 14 points.

Macassar is matching them stride for stride. In a high-octane 34-28 win over Belhar, the MC Boys proved they have the offensive firepower to out-gun anyone in the division. They sit level with the Olla Boys on points, separated only by the thinnest of margins.

St George’s, however, have hit a speed bump. In a classic end-to-end encounter they fell 38-31 to Violets. The loss keeps them in sixth place on the log and they will be acutely aware that they need to tighten their defense to break into the top four.

The Super League C division produced the most gut-wrenching results of the weekend.

Sir Lowrians emerged as the big winners of the local derby, securing a vital 24-19 win over Strand RFC. The first win for Sir Low this season moves them to ninth place, within touching distance of the promotion spots.

Strand RFC find themselves in a precarious 14th position. They showed flashes of brilliance, but struggled to close out the game โ€“ a trend they must reverse quickly.

Raithby Universals suffered the cruellest of defeats, losing 25-27 to Gardens. To lose by two points at this stage of the season is a bitter pill to swallow, especially as RU remain stuck in 12th place and are still searching for their first victory.

Strand United shared a similar fate, losing by a single point (14-15) to Caledonian Roses. Sitting in 15th with only one log point, the pressure is mounting on the United charges.

The upcoming fixtures offer a chance for redemption or a risk of further sliding down the log.

All Saints will look to protect their perfect record when they host Goodwood, while Macassar takes on a dangerous Hamlets side. Both clubs know a single slip-up could be costly.

In Super League C, Sir Lowrians have an opportunity to surge up the standings when they face Langa.

For Raithby, the task is big as they face undefeated league leaders, Rangers. Strand RFC must find a way past Gardens to escape the drop zone and Strand United hosts a tough Atlantis team.
