A leader of the South African National Civic Organisation (Sanco) in Site B, Khayelitsha is calling on law enforcement to intensify security in the area following a shooting in K-Section on Sunday morning, 6 September.
Two people were shot and killed in Mthunzi Street, Site B, leaving residents traumatised.

They are bluffing us
A Sanco leader from the area, who declined to be named for fear of reprisals, lambasted law-enforcement officers for failing dismally to prevent crime, for doing very little.
“I don’t see the use of deploying the army in our communities. Killings are happening despite their presence in our communities. They (soldiers) are bluffing us. Why don’t they apply the same force they were using during the Covid-19 lockdown?”
Community also to blame
He also condemned the community of hiding criminals, accusing residents of being accomplices.
“You can’t tell me that no-one saw or knew about it before it happened. We need to blame ourselves for what is happening in our communities. We hide these criminals. Sometimes as parents we need to come out and report any wrongdoing that is happening in our areas.”
Asked what they thought the shooting was about, the leader told City Vision anything was possible.
“I don’t want to speculate, but it could be anything. There is a lot happening in our areas. We have problems with extortion, robbery, murder, you name them.”
Police confirm incident
Provincial police spokesperson Sgt Wesley Twigg confirmed the incident, stating Khayelitsha police had registered two counts of murder for investigation following a shooting on Sunday morning, 6 September, about 03:50, in Mthunzi Street, Site B, which claimed the lives of two males aged 21 and 23.
“Officers attended to the crime scene, where they found the victims with gunshot wounds to their bodies. Both victims were declared dead on the scene by medical personnel.”
He said according to reports the victims were approached by unknown suspects who shot them before fleeing the scene. The motive for the attack had yet to be determined.
