GQEBERHA – Mount Road SAPS have opened an inquest docket following the recovery of a body from North End Lake in Sydenham.
Police spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg said officers were alerted on Tuesday, 31 March, at approximately 11:45, after a report of a body floating in the water at Milner Avenue.
“Upon arrival, members spoke to a witness who indicated that he had been fishing when he noticed the body floating in the water,” said Captain Janse van Rensburg.
The SAPS Diving Unit was called to the scene and recovered the body that was found in a partially decomposed state.
According to van Rensburg, the deceased is an unknown African male, estimated to be approximately 30 years old.
Police say the identity of the deceased has not yet been established. The cause of death is also unknown at this stage and will form part of ongoing investigations.
At the time of recovery, the deceased was wearing a red top, blue jeans and black Omega sandals.
