Bloemspruit police hunt suspect in fatal shooting of unidentified woman

The Bloemspruit police in Bloemfontein have launched a manhunt for a suspect in connection with the fatal shooting of a 22-year-old woman. Police said a passer-by made the grim discovery of the unidentified woman’s body in an open piece of veld in the Grootvlei area.

Sgt Mahlomola Kareli, police spokesperson in the Free State, said the woman was found murdered on Sunday 28 June.

The preliminary findings indicate that the victim sustained a single gunshot wound to the left side of her face.

“The motive for the killing is currently unknown, and a case of murder is under investigation,” said Kareli.

He said a local male resident who was on his way to check on his pigs had stumbled upon the body of the deceased. Kareli said police found numerous belongings of the deceased: a luggage bag, a handbag, a white fur jacket, white Nike sneakers and socks tucked inside the shoes. He said the belongings were discovered a short distance away from the body.
