There’s been a dramatic late change to the refereeing appointments for the second Test of the Greatest Rivalry series, with World Rugby confirming that Australian official Angus Gardner will now take charge of Saturday’s Cape Town showdown after Georgian referee Nika Amashukeli failed to recover from illness.

Brett Cronan takes over as Television Match Official, Eric Gauzins becomes Foul Play Review Officer, and Sam Grove-White replaces Gardner as an assistant referee after the Australian was promoted to the middle.

Amashukeli moves to third test

The Georgian official hasn’t been lost to the series entirely. World Rugby has confirmed Amashukeli will now referee the third Test in Johannesburg on 5 September, the match Gardner was originally scheduled to control.
