CAPE TOWN – Two separate police operations across the Western Cape resulted in significant arrests this week, with authorities seizing dagga cultivation equipment and an illegal firearm in coordinated law-enforcement efforts.
In the first incident, Ocean View police members and Metro Police officers teamed up to execute a search warrant around 15:45 at a Sunnydale residence on Wednesday afternoon (28 January), uncovering an extensive dagga cultivation operation.
The officers discovered dagga plants, sophisticated cultivation equipment and an undisclosed amount of cash believed to be proceeds of crime at the property.
A 43-year-old man was arrested on drug-dealing charges and will appear in the Simon’s Town Magistrates’ Court once formally charged.

Vrygrond rifle incident
In an unrelated incident, Public Order Police members arrested a 19-year-old suspect for possession of an unlicensed firearm during routine patrols in Vrygrond early Wednesday morning.
At 04:30, officers spotted the suspect allegedly carrying a suspicious object in Berry Road. Upon seeing the marked police vehicle, the suspect apparently fled into a nearby yard and threw the object onto the roof of a house.
The pursuing officers investigated and discovered the discarded item was a .22 calibre rifle, which was immediately confiscated and booked as evidence.
The teenage suspect will appear in Muizenberg Magistrates’ Court once charged with unlicensed firearm possession.
