On 23 October the Sporting Stars FC soccer team of the Breede Valley faced Glen Eagles of Stellenbosch in the final SAFA Cape Winelands Women’s Regional League (WRL) match of 2022.
The soccer players, from the Juventus, Mbekweni Sundowns and Glen Eagles soccer teams formed a guard of honour for the Sporting Stars FC soccer team, which was crowned the SAFA Cape Winelands WRL champions.
The Sporting Stars beat Glen Eagles 12-0, with the goals scored by Neliswa Klaasie, Ebeneshia Malgas, Inge Ngcenge and Ginia Bosman.
The team will travel to Knysna to take part in the WRL provincial play-offs on 4 and 5 November for a spot in the Sasol Woman’s league.
The soccer team played 17 matches in the season, of which they drew their first match and won the remaining matches
They scored a total of 94 goals and conceded only five.
Klaasie is the top scorer with 25 goals followed by Ngcenge (19), Malgas (13), Shanaaz Witbooi with (9) and Alubonile Qudalele (8).
