On Saturday (11 February) eight soccer teams took part in the inaugural Buco Cup of Love women’s soccer tournament hosted by Sporting Stars FC at Esselen Park in Worcester.

The eight teams were Heideveld (Cape Town), Rising Queens (Villiersdorp), Commodores (Caledon), Mbekweni Sundowns (Paarl), Franschhoek Spurs (Franschhoek), Falcons (Stellenbosch), Juventus (De Doorns) and the hosts, Sporting Stars FC (Worcester).

Heideveld was crowned the winner of the Buco Cup when they beat Sporting Stars FC 2-0 in the final.

Earlier that day Sporting Stars FC topped group A and Heideveld topped group B after both secured three wins from three games. Sporting Stars FC beat the Falcons 4-0 and Heideveld beat City Queens 8-0 in the semi-finals.

Falcons beat the Queens in a penalty shoot-out to secure the third spot.

The top goal scorers were Kulsum Harliem, Imaan Watson, and Kim Mentoor, with seven goals each from the Heideveld soccer team.

The best goalkeeper was Indiphile Ngqwayimbana, also of Heideveld, who did not concede a single goal in the tournament.

Ebeneshia Malgas of Sporting Stars FC was selected player of the tournament.
