The police are looking for four suspects after a business robbery in Zwelethemba.
According to spokesperson WO Vathiswa Jacobs, the police received a call at 22:05 on Sunday from a neighbour about people poised to rob the local Masupa Spaza Shop in Nkentsha Street.
“Apparently the owner went to lock the outer gate of the shop when he saw the robber running towards him,” she related. “The shop owner then left the gate open and ran into the shop. The robber came in and pointed a firearm at him.”
Jacobs said four other suspects came in brandishing knives and robbing the owner of cash and cigarettes before fleeing. Meanwhile, the robber with the firearm remained and demanded more money from the owner, whom he assaulted before leaving with money.
Outside, he encountered police, who had arrived while he was still inside. He was arrested and charged with business robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm. The four other suspects are still at large.
