The six diamonds seized from Daniel Pinehas last Thursday.

Worcester is once again in the spotlight, after members of the Anti-Gang Unit (AGU) discovered six uncut diamonds in a man’s possession.

This is the second incident in which diamonds were discovered. In the previous one a man was arrested after being apprehended while travelling in High Street in a taxi, allegedly on his way to a deal.

In the latest incident, Daniel Pinehas (50) appeared in the Worcester Magistrates’ Court on charges of possession of unpolished diamonds on Monday (1 August). This followed a tip-off given to the AGU last Thursday.

The unit received information about a suspicious-looking red Toyota Corolla in the Mountain Mill Mall parking lot.

“The members asked the suspects to climb out of the car and asked permission to search them,” said WO Vathiswa Jacobs, spokesperson for Worcester police.

The AGU then found one diamond in the accused’s trouser pocket and, on searching further, they also found five diamonds in his right pocket, wrapped in toilet paper.

He was the arrested and charged with the possession of unpolished diamonds.

He will appear again in the Worcester Magistrates’ Court on Monday (8 August).
