Everyone must join hands to encourage reconciliation. That was the message at a recent Reconciliation Concert held at the Worcester City Hall.
Groups and individual acts took to the stage to showcase their talents. From choir groups performing gospel songs to dancing groups performing vibrant dance items. The venue was filled with hundreds of people.
Among the performers were, Worcester Valley congregation and URC choirs who performed songs “Siyahamba” and “Plea from Africa” separately.
Eden School, Naomi Baron, Worcester-lyndansers and Kibbutz-rieldansers performed dance items. The Casper Brits trio gave an outstanding performance with the harmonicas. Other choirs which left the audience in awe were the Correctional Service choir and Victoria Park School choir.
Councillor of community development, Joyce Mei, welcomed everyone to the event. She said the aim of the day is to promote reconciliation.
“Everyone who is participating tonight is contributing towards reconciliation.
“Reconciliation is everyone’s business. It effects everyone,” said Mei.
Organiser of the event, Helga Beyers, said she was happy with the turnout. “The idea for the concert comes from the song, Heer ons bid vir ons Reënboognasie, (Lord we pray for our rainbow nation),” she adds.
She said it was perfectly fitting for the event to be held a week prior to the national elections so that people across all population groups could enjoy an evening together.
