Protect Your Daughter’s Future – The HPV Vaccine Saves Lives
The Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness is conducting its annual HPV vaccination campaign in schools from February to 31 March.
This single-dose vaccine protects girls against the human papillomavirus, leading cause of cervical cancer, the second-most common cancer among South African women, and the deadliest.
Since 2014 the province has administered more than 350 000 vaccines, reaching nearly 1 200 schools annually with over 80% coverage. The vaccine is safe, free and available to girls aged 9 and older in public and special schools.
“By vaccinating our young girls today we are taking a powerful step towards a future where cervical cancer is one less thing for our women to worry about,” said Western Cape Minister of Health and Wellness, Mireille Wenger. Parents should have received consent forms from schools. For those who miss this opportunity, catch-up doses will be available later this year.
This programme supports the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) goal to eliminate cervical cancer as a public health threat by 2030. Sign the consent form today; protect your daughter’s future!
