Three talented members of the Worcester Underwater Hockey Club recently made their mark on the international stage.

Mari le Roux, a student at Montana High School, Van Wyk Reitz, a promising athlete from Worcester Gymnasium, and coach Riaan le Roux represented South Africa at the CMAS (Confédération Mondiale des Activités Subaquatiques – World Underwater Federation) 6th Underwater Hockey Age Group World Championship in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 20 to 27 July.

Mari (U19 Women’s Division) showcased her skills and determination in a fiercely competitive category.

Van Wyk demonstrated his prowess in the u-19 Men’s division.

Le Roux (Development Coach u-19 Men’s Division): Riaan played a crucial role in his young charges’ preparation and performance. He is also chairperson, player and coach at the Worcester Underwater Hockey Club.

Impressive results

Despite facing tough opponents the South African teams quite simply stood their ground.

The u-19 Women’s team secured an impressive fifth place, while the u-19 Men’s team finished strong in seventh place. Their dedication, teamwork and passion for underwater hockey were evident throughout the championship.
