A routine police operation at OR Tambo International Airport (ORTIA) hit drug dealers hard as police seized drugs with a street value of R2.8 million.
Two discoveries were made this week during routine searches through warehouses. In the first instance crystal meth worth R2.2 million was found on Wednesday 4 March at a cargo warehouse at the airport. The meth was destined for the Philippines from South Africa.
In the second instance on Thursday 5 March, the police found eight large boxes containing dagga at another cargo warehouse. Its estimated worth is R672 000, the police said.
The shipment came from Morocco and its destination was South Africa.
According to the police the drugs have been seized and they are following leads to catch up with the traffickers.

Three arrested in North West
In the North West province, drug dealers were also dealt a blow after three suspects were arrested for possession of suspected illegal substances.
On Thursday, 5 March, two Nigerian nationals aged 40 and 43, were arrested in Schweizer-Reneke, Buiten Street.
The police searched the house after following up on information they received and found a variety of drugs, including mandrax, crystal meth, dagga as well as cash.
The men are expected to appear before the Schweizer-Reneke Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 9 March.
On Saturday 7 March, in an unrelated incident, a 29-year-old suspect was arrested in Letlhabile at Maboloka Village, after being found in possession of drugs with an estimated street value of more than R120 000 as well as a large amount of cash.
This suspect was apprehended during a crime intelligence-driven operation conducted by a team consisting of the Provincial Anti-Gang Unit, Provincia Tracking Team, Crime Intelligence and Klerksdorp Tactical Response Team (TRT).
He is expected to appear before the Brits Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 9 March on charge of dealing in drugs.
