The Breede Vallei Municipality (BVM) took a step towards improving traffic-law enforcement when Mayor Antoinette Steyn officially handed six new vehicles over to the Traffic Law Enforcement Department.

Deputy Mayor Juben von Willingh said law enforcement is an essential service in the municipality, and the new fleet will ensure it gives the best service when it comes to enforcing the law on roads.

“These vehicles mean we will have more officers on the road on a daily basis to cover a broad range of areas,” he said.

Traffic and Law Enforcement Services manager Danvin Maart said the new fleet would play a crucial part in fulfilling the department’s responsibility in maintaining law and order on the roads.

Maart expressed gratitude to the senior officials who worked tirelessly to bring the project to fruition, saying the additional vehicles would significantly contribute to increasing the department’s visibility on the roads.

The new vehicles are expected to address the challenges posed by the aging fleet.

The move is seen as a positive development towards creating safer road conditions and enhancing the overall security and order within the municipality.
