A brand new trail run series offers exciting new routes to both runners and walkers.
The Montagu Winter Trail Run series started on 1 June on a perfect chilly winter’s day at the bowling club. Altogether 33 locals and runners from further afield tackled this brand new series.
The second run in the series was held on 22 June on the Shepherd’s Fountain Trail on Rietvlei belonging to Koos and Adri Hugo. Word of this event has spread and more than fifty participants arrived to explore the area. Quite a few of them were walkers and many youngsters took part.
The next event takes place on 13 July at Rumali Guest Farm in the Keisie Valley. The Rumali Trail run was chosen as the queen stage of the series due to the amount of ascent on a 10km distance, making for the most spectacular views over the Keisie valley.
Brad Mitchell, with some help from the Montagu Trails, has opened up brand new single track and it is in pristine condition.
Montagu Winery has partnered with the Montagu Winter Trail Run Series with prizes. At the Rumali Run, participants can expect a muscadel table at the top of the mountain. If you are not aiming for a prize, you might as well take your time and enjoy a tot of muscadel and the breathtaking views.
This 10 km trail run will be the most “technical” of the series and runners can expect a mix of single and jeep track, some rocky scrambles in terrain that is the natural habitat of the Klipspringer.
The 5 km fun run/walk is suitable for beginners and children: easy, social and scenic. Rumali is pet friendly so you may bring your dog, on a leash, to enjoy the walk.
The finish line will have cold beer and a wine tasting, other snacks and cold drinks will be for sale. Bring your picnic blanket and something to throw on the braai fires.
