Local reggae artist Nkululeko Zungula, better known by his stage name Blak Kalamawi, is among those gunning for the Best Reggae Artist award at this year’s Mzansi Arts and Media Awards.
He announced this exciting news on his social media after clinching more than 15 mentions to qualify as a nominee for this prestigious accolade.
Commenting on his nomination, the Umzi FM presenter said: “Being acknowledged for my craft is an honour, and I am appreciative of the chance to compete for such a renowned award. Every vote counts; I urge all my fans not to miss this opportunity to show their love and appreciation for my amazing music. Let’s rally together and make sure I bring this accolade home” said RasYothando, as he’s affectionately known on the airwaves.”
In addition to managing his hectic musical career, this father of three is also a farmer and radio broadcaster. With more than a decade in the entertainment industry, the Ndinje hitmaker has performed alongside prominent artists such as Chomie, NaakMusiq, Professor, Emtee and international artists such as Capleton, Jamason and Lutan Fayha, to name a few.
Now entering its fifth season, the awards are a fantastic platform to unite artists and afford them the tools they need to succeed in their respective fields.
Each winner from the 10 categories will receive R5 000 in prize money as well as a coveted trophy and other prizes. In addition, the nominee who received the most votes between 16 and 25 June was to receive a media wall banner with their own design.
