This past weekend the Breede Valley witnessed at least another three accidents, one of them fatal, as confirmed by Worcester police.

On Friday afternoon (25 November) at 16:00 a fatal accident took place in Nuy Road, close to the Leipzig Wine Estate, which claimed the life of Randall van Sitters (43) of Worcester, who lived on a farm in Nuy Road with his family. He was employed by Eskom in the Breede Valley area.

Worcester police spokesperson WO Vathiswa Jacobs said regarding the head-on collision between Van Sitters’ bakkie and a farm truck, the farm truck allegedly swerved to avoid hitting someone in the road and collided with the on-coming bakkie.

The accident happened close to where Van Sitters and his family lived.

His wife, Liezel, said her husband was on his way home when the incident occurred.

“I could already see Randall’s bakkie driving towards the farm. Then I suddenly heard a very loud bang,” she related.

Liezel’s two nieces who were in the bakkie at the time of the accident sustained light injuries.

Her husband’s funeral will be held this coming Saturday (see pg 14).

Another motor vehicle accident that took place was on the N1 outside Worcester, in the direction of De Doorns close to the Potjie Geplant nursery, on Saturday (26 November) afternoon.

“Only one vehicle was involved, and no injuries were reported,” Jacobs said.

And on Sunday (27 November) afternoon, on the N1 near the Huguenot Tunnel, a truck overturned, causing the N1 to be shut for a few hours.
