South Africa’s champion winning Kung Fu team, Chin Woo, bagged yet another prestigious title this week after walking away as the winners of the Fourth Africa International Youth Kung Fu Championship.

The event, held at Fairbairn College‘s multi-purpose venue in Goodwood, Cape Town, saw competitors from all over Africa compete for the title, said team manager Salma Natalie Doran.

Gold Medals

In total, the Chin Woo Kung Fu team walked away with a total of 14 gold medals. This is also the third consecutive year the team has managed to win this championship, despite valiant efforts by their Southern African neighbours, particularly Zimbabwe, which finished second, with six gold medals. Zambia and Botswana tied third. Mozambique placed fourth, Tanzania fifth and Malawi sixth.

The Chin Woo team dominated San Da Chinese Kickboxing Full Contact, Individual Forms and Group Synchronised Divisions, much to the delight of the many spectators who packed Fairbairn’s hall, who had come along to support the home team, Doran said.

Coach

The Chin Woo team is coached by Shifu Junaid “MJ Li” Chafeker, Legends of Kung Fu champion and Hall of Fame 2026 inductee, and co-captained by senior athletes Saifullah Chafeker and Luqmaan Slarmie.

The 2027 Africa Youth Kung Fu Championship is scheduled for 24 and 25 April next year.
