FAIRVIEW – A three-year-old boy died in a suspected poisoning incident in Moorreesburg on Tuesday morning.

The child from the Fairview community was found dead at his home at approximately 07:40 on 5 May after allegedly inhaling poison.

His father (27), mother (18) and her younger sister (10) were discovered unconscious at the same residence and received medical treatment. All three survivors are recovering.

West Coast police district spokesperson Captain Tania Helfrich confirmed that rat poison is suspected to have caused the incident.

“An inquest docket has been opened,” Helfrich said.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.
