Learners had fun during the learning session.

The ArcelorMittal Foundation’s Saldanha Science Centre continues to inspire young minds through its Early Childhood Development (ECD) and Foundation Phase Programme. During a recent visit to Hilly’s Millies ECD Centre in Louwville, Vredenburg the Science Centre team introduced learners to early STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) concepts in a fun, hands-on way.

Learners are engaged in mathematical counting activities using colourful beads, discovering numbers, shapes and sequences while improving fine-motor coordination. Each playful exercise helps build confidence, teamwork and early problem-solving skills, sparking curiosity and creativity in the classroom.

The teacher was guided on how to weave these simple STEM principles into everyday learning, ensuring that discovery and curiosity remain central to their teaching approach.

This initiative forms part of the Science Centre’s mission to lay strong foundations in science and mathematics from the earliest years, empowering the next generation of thinkers and innovators across the West Coast.
