With only a few days left, the on-time application window for Grade R, 1 and 8 admissions for 2027 will close on Tuesday, 14 April.
The Western Cape Education Department (WCED), stated that parents are responsible for applying on time for a place in a school for their child, but the parents of 28 003 Grade 7 learners currently attending school in the Western Cape have not yet applied for a place in Grade 8 next year.
David Maynier, minister of the WCED said there is an urgent appeal to these parents to not wait.
“We have made it as easy as possible to apply, and made help available to parents who are not able to complete their applications online, so there is no reason not to apply on time.”
Applications can be made online on the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) website: https://www.westerncape.gov.za/education/service/learner-admissions
“Parents who need assistance can bring their required documents to one of our pop-up admissions sites. Details of the locations of these pop-up sites are available on the WCED website. Parents can also visit their local education district office for assistance.”

Required documents include the learner’s latest school report (if applicable), a certified birth certificate, ID or passport, proof of residence, and an immunisation card for primary school learners. Foreign learners must provide relevant permits or documentation, or an affidavit if unavailable.
The online system is zero-rated, allowing access without mobile data. Step-by-step guidance and support is available on the admissions website, along with pop-up sites for parents needing assistance.
Do not to delay, as late applications put pressure on the system and delay placements.
Don’t wait! Apply on time before Tuesday 14 April.
