The South African Navy participated in the Mandela Day Campaign by revamping and making donations to Babbelbekkies Pre-Primary School, located in Diazville, Saldanha Bay.

The project commenced on Monday, 14 July, where members of SAS Saldanha and Military Training for Ratings Part 1 (MTR 1) learners commenced with cleaning, patching walls, painting, replacing damaged roofing and installing security gates.

Warrant Officer Class One Bhekuyise Zuma was appointed project leader under the leadership of Officer Commanding (OC) Captain Berlinah Madonsela.

The South African Navy Spouses Forum, represented by Chairperson Noxhanti Lobese, made heartwarming donations, which included clothing items and toys.
On Thursday, 24 July, Chief of the South African Navy, Vice Admiral Monde Lobese, together with Naval Command Council and OC SAS Saldanha, Captain Berlinah Madonsela, spent 67 minutes doing general maintenance before officially handing over the project.

“Today, we are not merely handing over a partially renovated facility and objects; we are attempting to assist in transforming the lives of our children.

The items we are donating are not merely commodities; they are tools of growth and joy; they represent our belief that all children deserve a nurturing world where they can discover, learn, and develop to their full potential”, Lobese said in his address.
On Monday, 28 July, OC SAS Saldanha, Madonsela officially handed over donations to Onikwa Special Daycare Centre on behalf of SAS Saldanha.

The Special Daycare Centre, in Hopland, Saldanha Bay, requested donations in the form of baby wipes, nappies, toiletries, and cleaning items. The Principal of Onikwa Special Daycare, Mrs Gertruida Oor, thanked the SA Navy for donations. She mentioned that the items will significantly assist in taking care of kids wth special needs.
