LANGEBAAN – Members of the Langebaan Country Estate (LCE) Bowls Club were among the top achievers at the recent West Coast Bowls Annual General Meeting held on Saturday 9 May in Velddrif, where prestigious titles were awarded to players across the region.
Elana Fourie of LCE dominated the awards, receiving dual honours as Sportswoman of the Year and Ladies’ Singles Player of the Year. The awards acknowledge her outstanding performances and contribution to the sport during the season.
Fellow LCE member Jaco Uys was awarded the Men’s Singles Player of the Year title, securing a third accolade for the club and highlighting the strength of the Langebaan Country Estate bowls programme.
Darling Bowls Club also celebrated success, with Francois Trotskie named Sportsman of the Year in recognition of his exceptional contribution to the sport.
The junior category saw rising star Kari Kriek awarded Junior Sportsplayer of the Year, representing the continued development of young talent within the West Coast Bowls community.
New leadership
The AGM also saw the election of a new Executive Committee for the 2026/2027 season. Rika Mitchell takes over as President, supported by Vice President Leon Meyer. The executive team is completed by Treasurer Pieter Lindenberg, Secretary Helma Smit, Match Secretary Wilhelm Kroon, Development Officer Kiewiet van Rooyen, and Safeguarding Officers Marina Williams and Letitia Van Zyl-Schultz.
According to information shared by the clubs, the awards recognise the recipients’ hard work, dedication and commitment to the sport.
The achievements of Fourie, Uys, Trotskie and Kriek reflect the competitive spirit and development within West Coast Bowls, while the new leadership team prepares to guide the region into the upcoming season.
