Athletes get ready to hit the beach next weekend at the first Health Weekend Run.

The Boland Athletics-sanctioned event will take place on 17 and 18 June in Saldanha.

The two-day event will be hosted by Onsite Events with a fun run and 10 km race and half-marathon, which starts on Saturday and ends on Sunday with a Fun Beach Run at the Blue Bay Lodge, Saldanha.

Prize for the first, second and third finishers are up for grabs, with medals for all athletes who complete the event. The start and finish are at the White City Multi-purpose Sports Centre. Prize giving starts 11:30.

On Saturday the Health Weekend kicks off with a 5 km fun run, 10 km and 21,1 km races. The 5 km starts at 08:45 (R100) while the 10 km starts at 08:30. Licensed athletes pay R130 and unlicensed athletes R190 to enter.

The half-marathon starts at 08:00 and licensed athletes pay R180 and unlicensed R240. Entry for those under 12 and over 70 is free. They will only have to pay for the licence fees for the 10 km and half-marathon.

Registration takes places on Friday between 17:00 and 19:00 at the White City Multi-purpose Sports Centre or on the morning of the event from 06:30.

Sunday the Health Weekend will end with a Fun Beach Run at Blue Bay Lodge, with both a 4 km and 8 km race taking place. All those who finish will receive a medal.
