Community spirit shines through toiletry drive for learners

SALDANHA – To give back to the community is a mission Brianstin Yokwe, owner of Kwa Spitjo Home of the Marinade, strongly believes in.

Basic hygiene products are often taken for granted, but for vulnerable learners, essentials such as soap, toothpaste, deodorant and sanitary pads can be unaffordable luxuries.

Recognising the impact this can have on learners’ confidence and school attendance, Yokwe, launched a toiletry bag charity drive aimed at supporting learners in the Saldanha and Vredenburg communities.

Handovers of these products took place in Saldanha at Diazville Primary School, Middelpos Primary School and St Andrews Primary School on Saturday 10 October.

“Giving back to these specific learners was vital because community development starts with investing in our children to rebuild their confidence and self-worth, making them realize that they matter.

Delivering dignity

“By providing these care packs, we are doing more than just donating physical items, we are delivering dignity, restoring self-worth, and showing these learners that their community sees them, values them, and cares about their future.

“When we empower our youth, we strengthen the collective foundation of the entire West Coast,” said Yokwe.

According to Yokwe, he thrives on relationships, trust, and authenticity.

“When a community sees a local entrepreneur step up to meet a real human need without expecting anything in return, it creates an unbreakable bond. Giving back transforms a business from a simple storefront or service provider into a trusted pillar of the community.

It shows locals that we are not just here to take their money, but that we are genuinely invested in their well-being and that’s our mission at Kwa Spitjo Home of The Marinade.”

His long term plans are to focus on other areas in the Saldanha Bay municpal area where the need arises.

He also thanks the sponsors: Coastal Tyres, Way2Go Plumbing, RK Compressors, Clean-Current, Sandelmi, Grafix24, S&H Scales, The West Lounge, UMEC Ubber Services, ESS Fire Safety Solutions, Allied Crane Hire, JHJ Hydraulics, Static Nation and VW Society West Coast.
