The Weskus Quartel Shellhole of the Memorable Order of the Tin Hats (MOTH) hosted a Golf Day on Saturday 8 February at the St Helena Bay Golf Club.

The day, played as a Four Ball Alliance, saw sixteen teams participating and proved to be a huge success.
The Weskus Quartel Shellhole was founded in Saldanha and inaugurated on 29 May 2005 by the Cape Midlands Executive Dug Out.
The name Weskus Quartel is composed of two words: Weskus (Afrikaans for “West Coast”) and Quartel (Portuguese for “barracks” or “soldiers’ living quarters”). Hence, Weskus Quartel.
Its Shellhole (branch) is in the office building of Tubby Transport in St Helena Bay harbour.
The purpose of the MOTHs is:
• To raise funds for South African military veterans of war and to maintain the living spirit of frontline comradeship through true comradeship by practising frontline friendship in civilian life.
• Mutual help by acknowledging the personal and collective obligation to help each other, as in front-line service.
• Sound memory by remembering the fallen as a living companionship and to serve their memory in practical actions which rise above divisions of social status, race or politics.
Says Old Bill, Danie Erwee, “these ideals permeate every aspect of the existence of the MOTH, and all the activities and objects are conducted within the context of the said ideals. Its objectives are to protect and advance the interests of war veterans and their kin by conducting benevolent activities of an ex-service character.

“As well as the provision of residential care for retired persons in the private sector.”
• The provision of residential care for retired persons in the private sector, including provisions of funds, assets, services or other sources by way of donation to any public benefit organisation which has been approved in terms of Section 30.
• Institution, board or body contemplated in section 10(1) (CA)(i), which conducts one or more public benefit activities in this part or association or persons carrying into this, in the Republic in compliance with paragraph 10(a)(i) to (iii) of Part 1 of the 9th Schedule of the Income Tax Act.
